MOON DAY MONDAY
This remarkable image was taken by the Galileo Spacecraft as it left the earth on its way around the solar system.
The craft was named for Galileo Galilei… you know… the physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who perhaps more than any one person is responsible for modern science.
But don’t take my word for that, Stephen Hawking said it last year in Invention & Technology.
Oh by the way, today would be his 446 birthday!
So Galileo (galileo GALILEO galileo GALILEO figaro MAGNIFICCOOOOOOOOOOOOO) I just want to say thank you from the rest of us for science. Sorry about all that persecution for pursuing the ultimately correct heliocentric model of the solar system. Hope naming that bitchin’ spacecraft after you made up for it.
