The MTA board approved the fare hike.

Monthly metro cards will now go up to $112. The individual fare went up to $2.50.

Remain calm: It’s 8 bucks a month more. Twenty-seven cents a day extra. 

If you buy 30-day cards it works out to $3.73 a day to get pretty much anywhere in the city pretty much whenever. 

Lets Compare: 

Washington DC 28-day unlimited: $230

Boston Monthly Unlimited: $70

Chicago Monthly Unlimited: $86

London Underground Monthly (converted to USD) $143 minimum (fare varies)

So yes, something we all need getting more expensive is always frustrating, but I argue we’re spoiled by it. Yes, Boston and Chicago’s systems are cheaper, but they are not nearly as expansive, nor are they 24 hours. (well, 2 lines in chicago are but still) 

So yes, frustrating a bit, sure I agree. But, lest we forget, maybe these guys actually deserve the money, this time.
